Why Summer Is the Best Time to Get Healthy + 5 Tips

It’s summer. Are you ready to get out and soak up the sun? Let's check.

Swimsuit? Yep.

Sunscreen? You bet.

Sunglasses? Of course.

Summer body? Umm...in progress.

Since most of us have jobs or other responsibilities daily, it’s common to have to work for that summer body during the summer months too. Even if we are pretty proud of our results going into summer, we still have to maintain that physique.

Summer is the perfect time to get outdoors and have fun, but it's also the best time to get healthy as well.

You know you want to be active this season. If not, let us convince you a bit.

5 ways you can get healthy this summer.

By having a healthy routine and diet, you can make major breakthroughs towards your summer goals. Here are five simple switches that you can make easily once the warm weather breaks through.

Tip 1: Opt for a summer-inspired smoothie.

When it's hot out, there is nothing quite as quenching as an ice-cold refresher.

Instead of a loaded meal or something indulgent, replace it with a refreshing yet powerful meal replacement smoothie. Making a delicious meal replacement shake is often as easy as finding a healthy smoothie powder and then blending it with some cold water. Chilling the mixture for slightly less than half an hour will give it an extra boost for cooling you down too.

A meal replacement drink with summer ingredients gives you much more balanced nutrition. Swapping out a meal with a replacement smoothie once a day or a few time a week can make a positive impact on your health and can help save the precious resources around us. There's plenty of easy smoothie recipes online too, so there's nothing holding you back.

Tip 2: Find your inner strength with outdoor yoga/meditation.

If meal replacement seems like a bridge too far for you at first, consider building up your inner resolve through yoga to help get you there. This summer, take the opportunity to go outdoors, connect with nature, and practice mindful meditation.

Not only is this great for your mental health, flexibility, and posture, but it also gives you the chance to dedicate yourself in a brand-new way. The mind is more powerful than we often think. If you want to build new habits, then yoga and meditation can have surprisingly powerful effects on your results.

Tip 3: Build more muscle with extra protein.

Sometimes slimming down isn’t always the goal—we all have different bodies so it's important to do what’s best for you. If you want more muscle but all you’re doing is juicing and dieting, you may be unintentionally robbing yourself of the results you’re working towards.

To make sure you get the protein you need, find a protein powder or protein bar that you can take with you when you work out. Check out our health benefits page on Muscle Recovery for more detailed info on how Soylent can help with building muscle.

Your body builds muscle best when you get that protein in your system within 30 minutes after exercise, so think ahead and bring those protein supplements with you. This could be a great time for a meal as well. You can fuel up and get the protein your muscles need to retain the work.

Tip 4: Set activity goals each week.

Sometimes, getting out there and getting active can be overwhelming when there are so many activities to do during summer. Try focusing your interests with weekly goals about what you want to try or what you want to go and do.

When we list things out or write them down, we become much more likely to go and do them. Commit yourself to get active or find a new outdoor hobby to take on during summer. Do what you love or find something new, but write it down.

Tip 5: Schedule group activities and hold each other accountable.

A lot of these activities can be fun to do alone, but they are even better when we share the experience with others. Plus, making plans with others gives you an accountability partner/group who can help motivate you when you’re feeling lazy and vice versa.

Whether it’s hiking, surfing, or even taking a walk to your favorite park or beach, find people who have common interests and then make plans to get out and get active. Just make sure you always bring nutritious food and beverages to keep the heat from dehydrating you and draining your energy.

Why summer is the best time to get healthy.

There’s a lot of reasons to get outside this summer and get healthy. Replacing junk food and sugary beverages with protein smoothies in the summer will make you feel better. When you feel better and healthier, you’re more likely to go out and do what you love. The same goes for creating stronger bodies with extra protein—your body will be grateful for the extra nutrients.

To get there, some of us need to open our minds up to creating these new habits or planning weekly goals to stick to them. Involving other people not only lets you share in these experiences, you will also be more motivated to commit to them!

You’ll never know what you’re missing till you try, so use these tips to get out there this summer while getting healthy as well.
